CADD is a general purpose computer assisted drafting and
design program for preparing two-dimensional drawings and
three-dimensional models. It provides a full range of drafting tools that
let you create accurate and realistic images that meet the ANSI (American
National Standards Institute) standards for drafting.
The AutoCAD 2006 software is used since it commands
over 70% of the world's CADD applications. Therefore, a student who learns
on AutoCAD software has firsthand experience on the same software that is
used in the majority of business and industrial applications.
Any 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grade student enrolled in one of
the SEACBEC participating schools, namely, Woodlawn, Hermitage, Warren, or the New Edinburg Learning Center, or any adult
student who qualifies through one of the Adult Education programs
sponsored by SEACBEC, may enroll in CADD.
Students are allowed to enroll at any time, however, most
students enroll at the beginning of a semester. The instructional program
is individualized to meet the needs of each student and students work at a
pace compatible with their abilities.
There are no pre-requisites. However, a reasonable
background in simple arithmetic and a knowledge of keyboarding is
helpful. Artistic abilities are not necessary since the views of objects,
buildings, and such are laid out mechanically through projection methods.
There are growing opportunities, even in south Arkansas,
in the CADD industry. A number of businesses and industries in our area
are beginning to utilize the versatility and speed of CADD for designing
and documenting their projects. The biggest need is trained and qualified
CADD operators. For those willing to relocate to the metropolitan areas,
the opportunities are fantastic, and the money is top dollar.
